macOS 27 Golden Gate shipped on September 14, 2026. Apple released the first update, 27.0.1 (build 26A434), on September 28, with release notes that say only: "This update provides bug fixes for your Mac." No individual issues are named. That makes it hard to know what actually changed without cross-checking forums, developer notes, and independent testing, which is what this page does. We will update it as 27.0.1, the 27.2 beta, and later releases add more information.
Where things stand right now
| Version | Build | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 27.0 | 26A428 | Initial release, September 14, 2026 |
| 27.0.1 | 26A434 | Current public release, September 28, 2026. No published CVE entries. |
| 27.2 beta 2 | 26B5091g | In testing, September 21, 2026. Public release expected late October. |
Note the version gap: there is no 27.1. Apple's next point release is numbered 27.2, matching the version track running in parallel for iOS and iPadOS.
Confirmed fixed in 27.0.1
Apple's release notes did not list these, but independent sources and user reports converge on them:
- Golden Gate wallpaper failing to load correctly on some Macs after the initial install.
- Platform SSO not showing username and password fields at the Lock Screen after waking from sleep, per Apple's own internal change notes surfaced by Mr. Macintosh.
- Safari updated to 27.0.1 alongside the OS, though Apple did not describe what changed in it.
- Audio capture reliability with two different input/output devices, a backend bug inherited from Tahoe that could silently drop VOIP audio in apps like Zoom and FaceTime, and in the worst cases hang the system. Audio developer Rogue Amoeba confirmed this is fixed as of the Golden Gate release line.
Reported, not fixed in 27.0.1
These are widely reported and still present after installing 27.0.1, based on forum testing after the update:
- Mission Control and full-screen switching remain broken for many users. Clicking the desktop background inside Mission Control while in a full-screen app often snaps back to the previous full-screen app instead of showing the desktop. We cover this in detail, with workarounds, in our Mission Control fix guide. One user who tested after 27.0.1 described it as "less glitchy" but not resolved.
- Clicking an app in the Dock while in full screen returns you to the previous full-screen app instead of switching, rather than opening the app you clicked.
- Safari profile names missing from App Exposé.
- The menu bar sometimes does not appear in full-screen apps until Mission Control is opened once.
- The Apple TV app loses full-screen playback state after exiting and returning to a paused video, requiring a manual resize.
- iCloud Private Relay does not function inside Golden Gate virtual machines, confirmed still present as of the 27.2 beta 1.
Workaround that helps with most Mission Control and Dock symptoms: restart the process that runs them without a full reboot:
killall Dock
This is safe. Mission Control, Spaces, App Exposé, and the Dock all run under the same process, so restarting it clears many stuck states without losing open windows.
Reported but not independently confirmed
These appear in forum threads but we have not found confirmation from a second, independent source. Treat them as "worth checking if it matches your symptoms," not as settled facts.
- FaceTime Audio always launches camera and video even for an audio-only call. Reported on the Golden Gate forum after 27.0.1 shipped; we have not found a second source confirming scope or a fix.
- Universal Clipboard causing a major system hang on 27.0.1. A handful of forum replies describe this;
it is not yet clear how widespread it is or what triggers it. If Universal Clipboard misbehaves for you short of a full
hang, resetting the clipboard-sharing preference is a safe first step:
Then toggle Handoff off and back on under System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff.defaults delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.coreservices.useractivityd.plist ClipboardSharingEnabled - Dragging a file into a Finder window while scrolling locks out the scroll wheel. Reported in one forum thread; we have not reproduced or seen it confirmed elsewhere.
- Dock stuck in full transparency after installing 27.0.1, reported by a small number of users.
Not a bug: what people mistake for one
Two of the most common "something's broken" reports in launch week turned out to be expected behavior, not defects:
- Slow, hot Mac for the first few days. This is Spotlight rebuilding a new semantic index for Siri AI, Photos re-analyzing your library, and iCloud re-syncing metadata, all running hard and then stopping on their own. See our Spotlight indexing guide if it has lasted more than a week.
- Battery drain right after updating. Same root cause as above in the large majority of reports. See our battery drain diagnosis guide before assuming it is permanent.
What to expect in 27.2
Apple has not announced major new consumer features for 27.2 at the beta stage. What is confirmed or reported so far:
- Siri AI in additional languages, confirmed by Apple alongside the first beta.
- Automatic password changes, a feature Apple had promised for the initial Golden Gate release but omitted, reportedly arriving here instead.
- General bug fixes and performance work addressing the first release, per Apple's own beta description, without specifics.
- New issues introduced in the beta itself, as of beta 1 and 2: Microsoft Teams crashing when joining a video call, and file renaming from Finder by clicking the name with the mouse or trackpad no longer working. Both are beta-stage reports and may not reach the public release.
Public release is expected toward the end of October, based on Apple's beta cadence so far.
Should you wait for 27.2?
- If Mission Control and full-screen switching are central to how you work, the underlying bug is confirmed unfixed through at least 27.2 beta 1. Waiting will not necessarily help; there is no confirmation it is fixed in the beta yet.
- If you depend on a Golden Gate virtual machine with Private Relay, that is still broken as of beta 1 too.
- For most other use cases, 27.0.1 is the current recommended install if you are already on Golden Gate. It carries real fixes, even if Apple did not itemize them, and there are no published vulnerabilities specific to it that would argue for delaying.
- If you have not upgraded yet and these open issues matter to you, see our upgrade now or wait guide for the broader decision.
Seeing something not listed here?
Apple collects bug reports through Feedback Assistant, built into every Mac. Opening a report there, even a brief one, is more useful to Apple than a forum post alone, and it is the only channel that gets a tracked reference number back.
- Open Feedback Assistant from Spotlight, or download it from Apple's developer site if it is not already on your Mac.
- Choose the area closest to your issue (Mission Control and Spaces, for example, falls under Desktop & Window Management).
- Describe exact steps to reproduce it, and attach a screen recording if the bug is visual. Reports with reliable repro steps get more attention than one-line descriptions.
- Note the macOS build number from About This Mac, since the same symptom can behave differently across 27.0, 27.0.1, and the 27.2 beta.
If you find solid evidence that one of the "unconfirmed" items above is widespread, or that any "not fixed" item is resolved in a newer build, we update this page.
The short version
- 27.0.1 fixes several real issues Apple did not itemize, including a Lock Screen bug and a VOIP audio reliability bug inherited from Tahoe.
- Mission Control, full-screen app switching, and Golden Gate VM networking remain broken as of 27.0.1 and into the 27.2 beta.
- FaceTime Audio and Universal Clipboard issues are reported but not yet independently confirmed; treat them as possible, not certain.
- Most "my Mac is slow and hot" reports in the first week are Spotlight and Photos indexing, not a bug.
killall Dockis a safe first step for most Mission Control and Dock glitches.
